Sutton sacked

AUSTRALIAN SWIMMING FEDERATION fired men's head coach Brian Sutton because he arrived late for a World Championships fine-tuning camp at Sindelfingen, Germany.

The team departed for Europe on July 6 and Sutton, who was granted permission to remain at home a little longer, missed his scheduled flight on July 8. Swimming Australia confirmed Sutton's dismissal on its official website. Australian team leader Greg Hodge said national coaches were subject to the same disciplinary code as the swimmers and administrators had "no choice" but to fire Sutton.

Australian women's head coach Scott Volkers becomes head coach of the squad, Australian Swimming chief executive Glenn Tasker said.
