Warne to bid adieu to ODIs after World Cup

Shane Warne plans to end his one-day career after the World Cup. From then on, Test cricket would be his complete focus and attention.

In one-day cricket, where big hits rule, he can leave them bamboozled with his flight, turn and guile. Shane Warne can sting in all forms of the game.

However, this great leg-spinner plans to end his one-day career after the World Cup. From then on, Test cricket would be his complete focus and attention.

"It was the dislocated shoulder that he suffered during the December 15th game of the triangular limited over competition that has influenced his decision.

"It hasn't been a decision, I suppose, that has come lightly. I love playing for Australia but the No. 1 priority for me is to play Test cricket for as long as I can,'' he said in Sydney.

"I've been thinking about it for a while but I didn't come to the conclusion until I was carried off on a stretcher in Melbourne. That sort of brought my thinking home about how hard it is on your body in one-day cricket.''

There was no dearth of support for him too as he arrived at the decision, and this list includes his team-mates, Aussie one-day captain Ricky Ponting, coach John Buchanan, and the Australian Cricket Board.

"Everyone I've spoken to thinks it's a pretty positive and smart decision, and a pretty gutsy one,'' said Warne. Actually, it's a pretty safe and pragmatic one. The man most likely to surpass Jamaican Courtney Walsh's record for the most Test wickets, cannot afford too many risks.
