Eighty-six athletes per gender can qualify for the Games, with only a maximum of six each per NOC.

Qualification process

For Team (Continental and World Team qualification) – Each International Table Tennis Federation continent will organise an event to determine their representative (six quota places available per gender). The ITTF will plan World Team qualification event, with nine teams to be qualified.

 

Each NOC with a qualified men’s or women’s team should nominate two athletes to compete in the singles event.

 

For Singles – Athletes with the best results at the singles continental qualification events, not belonging to a NOC with a team qualified of the same gender will qualify for Olympics (22 quota places available per gender).

 

For mixed doubles - Each International Table Tennis Federation continent will organise an event to determine their representative (six quota places available per gender). World Tour grand finals with a maximum of one pair per NOC.
