The Delhi High Court has allowed the secretary of the All India Carrom Federation (AICF), VD Narayan, to communicate with the International Carrom Federation and send the entries for the fifth World Cup to be staged in Korea from August 24 to 28.

The entries had been sent earlier by VD Narayan as a member of the ad hoc committee, appointed by the High Court, but it was rejected by the International Federation, which refused to deal with any other entity except the the executive of the national federation.

Even though the hearing of the main case between the Carrom Federation and the Union Sports Ministry was listed for July 9, the Vacation Judge, Justice Rekha Palli had issued an order on June 25, for an early hearing on July 3, to ensure the quick processing of the Indian entries for the World Cup.

Accordingly, on hearing the application on Tuesday, Justice V Kameswar Rao permitted VD Narayan to act as the secretary of the national federation so as to ensure acceptance of the Indian entries by the international body.

The same procedure had been followed during the last World Cup as well. The main writ petition is listed for hearing on July 9, after another court order had stipulated that the case, which has been dragging for more than two years, be finalised within two months.
