CWG: Nine-member cycling team named

The team of five women and four men was selected on the basis of the cyclists’ performances at the recent Asian Track Cycling Championship in Malaysia, held from February 16-21. India won four medals at the event, including three gold.

The Cycling Federation of India (CFI) on Friday named a nine-member team for the 2018 Commonwealth Games. The team of five women and four men was selected on the basis of the cyclists’ performances at the recent Asian Track Cycling Championship in Malaysia, held from February 16-21. India won four medals at the event, including three gold.

While the Indian men’s junior team swept all the sprinting events at the Asian meet, Andaman & Nocobar’s 17-year old Esow added to his kitty by winning the Keirin and individual sprint event as well.

The junior men of Esow, Mayur Pawar and James Singh bettered Japan in the final with a new continental record of 46.070 seconds against the previous record of 46.095 held by Malaysian. Among the women, Danamma won bronze for India's first ever medal in the endurance event of Point Race.
