Cyclist Simon Yates to return to Giro d'Italia in 2019

Simon Yates, who just missed out on winning Giro d'Italia 2018, has announced he'll be back in 2019 to "finish  the job off".

Vuelta a Espana 2018 champion Simon Yates has announced his comeback to the Giro d’Italia in 2019.

The 26-year-old Briton, who was leading for 13 days, lost the 2018 edition to eventual winner Chris Froome after a downfall at stage 19. Yates, who rides for Mitchelton-Scott, wants to "finish  the job off" in 2019.

“I will be returning to the Giro d’Italia next year. I am looking forward to it and I have great memories from last year with three stage wins. But of course I would like to go back and try finish the job off,” Yates said in a video made available by Giro d’Italia’s official Twitter account on Monday.

 

“It looks very difficult as always with the Giro, and next year with three time trials it could be very tricky, may be don’t suit me perfectly, but I have to go and try to win anyway,” he added.

Yates had earned three stage victories in 2018.
