McLaren Report: More than 1,000 Russians in 'institutionalised' doping

The highly anticipated part two of the McLaren report on performance-enhancing drugs in Russian sport was released on Friday.

The highly anticipated part two of the McLaren report on performance-enhancing drugs in Russian sport was released on Friday. Spearheaded by international doping sleuth Richard McLaren, the report reconfirmed that large scale cover up of doping took place in Russia. Speaking to the media, Professor McLaren said: "Over 1,000 Russian athletes can be identified as having benefitted from manipulations to conceal positive doping tests."

According to Prof. McLaren, more than 1,000 Russian athletes in about 30 sports took part in an "institutional conspiracy" to use banned drugs at the Sochi and London Olympics and other global events.

McLaren, who has accused Russia of "state-sponsored" cheating, said in his new report that he had confirmed the switching of samples at the Sochi Winter Olympics in 2014 and that salt and coffee was used to manipulate samples when checked by international experts.
