Evin Lewis once again turned out to be India’s nemesis in the shortest format with yet another magnificent hundred in West Indies' comfortable nine wicket victory against India in the one-off T20 on Sunday. Earlier in the week, India won the ODI series. ( Report )

Moeen Ali took six wickets as England beat South Africa by 211 runs to win the first Test at Lord's with more than a day to spare on Sunday. The Proteas, set 331 to win, collapsed to 119 all out inside 37 overs. (

Tamil Nadu’s Murali Vijay and Karnataka’s K.L.Rahul, who went under the knife in London in mid-April to treat a right wrist injury and a left shoulder ailment, have been cleared to play Test match cricket. The Australian Cricketers' Association said that players would boycott this month's Australia A tour of South Africa over a pay dispute. The union said players were not obliged and were unavailable to tour South Africa for the Australia A team without an agreed pay deal or new Memorandum of Understanding, after their existing contracts with Cricket Australia expired on June 30 following months of bitter wrangling. Wayne Rooney has completed his return to Everton after the Toffees agreed an undisclosed fee with Manchester United. The 31-year-old has agreed a two-year-deal at Goodison Park after passing a medical on Saturday. ( Report )

Manchester United has splashed the cash in search of goals, agreeing a fee for Everton striker Romelu Lukaku in a blockbuster deal. Lukaku, 24, will reunite with former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford for a reported £75million fee. ( Report )

Chelsea has made its first major signing ahead of the new season, signing Roma defender Antonio Rudiger in a £30million deal. Rudiger is fresh off helping Germany to the Confederations Cup title and has penned a five-year contract at Stamford Bridge. The Blues could pay an extra €4m in bonuses. ( Report )

Manchester United-bound striker Romelu Lukaku is likely to have to spend a fraction of his extravagant salary on settling a fine in Beverly Hills after being arrested during a noisy party at his rented mansion. ( Report )

India, a country of a billion, gearing up to take part in its first FIFA event, the under-17 World Cup, was handed a tough draw. The host nation was drawn to take on the CONCACAF under-16 runner-up, USA, in the opening encounter on October 6 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi. Indian Super League (ISL) winner Atlético de Kolkata appointed Ashley Westwood as its new technical director for the upcoming season. In the biggest upset of the Wimbledon, three time Grand Slam champion, Stanislas Wawrinka was humbled by 21-year-old Daniil Medvedev. The Russian prevailed 6-4, 3-6, 6-4, 6-1, in an encounter that lasted over two hours. ( Report )

Bethanie Mattek-Sands was left screaming in agony after suffering an "acute knee injury" in a horrific fall during her second-round match against Sorana Cirstea at Wimbledon. ( Report )

Valtteri Bottas roared to the second victory of his career on Sunday when he won the Austrian Grand Prix for Mercedes ahead of championship leader Sebastian Vettel of Ferrari. The Finn, in his first season with Mercedes after replacing 2016 champion Nico Rosberg, came home 0.658 seconds clear of Vettel who increased his lead over Lewis Hamilton in the drivers championship to 20 points. World champion Peter Sagan was sensationally kicked out of the Tour de France for causing a crash that saw Mark Cavendish taken to hospital. ( Report )

Chris Froome's Tour de France hopes took a blow as chief lieutenant Geraint Thomas crashed out with a broken collarbone. Thomas was second overall at the start of the day, just 12 seconds behind reigning champion and his Sky team leader Froome. But just under halfway through the mountainous 181.5km ninth stage from Nantua to Chambery, Thomas crashed hard on a fast and wet descent. ( Report )

ATHLETICS

On a humid Sunday night, the 27-year-old from Tamil Nadu looked fresh as he broke away from the rest of the pack on the back straight and won the 10,000m gold at the 22nd Asian Athletics Championships. Lakshmanan, who now has two tickets for next month’s London Worlds, became the first Indian to complete a 5,000-10,000m double at the Asian Athletics Championships. ( Report )

The months after the last year’s Rio Olympics were very disappointing ones for Sudha Singh. The 3,000m steeple chaser, a former national record holder, was down with swine flu soon after Rio which virtually sapped her of all energy. The UP athlete resumed training only in January this year and on Saturday evening won her maiden steeple chase gold at the Asian Athletics Championships at the Kalinga Stadium. ( Report )

British athletics superstar Mo Farah eased to victory in the 3000 metres at the Diamond League meet in the London Stadium on Sunday and said off the track matters didn't concern him. The 34-year-old — a quadruple Olympic and world champion having achieved the 5000 and 10000m double twice in both sporting showpieces — said he could do little about his medical records being hacked by Fancy Bears and then leaked to the press as happened last week.
