Martina Cavallero scored a brace and Maria Grannato, Carla Rebecchi, Agustina Albertarrio each scored one goal for Argentina.

India women’s hockey failed to make an impact as it was beaten 5-0 in the last league match at the Olympic hockey centre on Saturday.

It was the fourth defeat for the Indian women, competing in the Olympics for the first time after the Moscow Games in 1980. The team had lost to Australia (1-6), Britain (0-3) and U.S. (1-6) after the 2-2 draw against Japan.

Argentina scored all the goals through Martina Cavallero (2), skipper Carla Rebecchi, Maria Granatto and Agustina Albertarrio, in the second quarter.

India finished at the bottom of the group with Japan, which is yet to play its last league match against Australia, keeping company. There will be no classification matches for the teams positioned fifth and sixth in the group.

In rowing , Datta Bhokanal won the Group C finals to finish 13th overall.
