India's top guns chase glory in Asian Air Gun Championship

Some of the best Indian shooters, Jitu Rai, Gagan Narang, Heena Sidhu, Yashaswini Deswal, Ravi Kumar, Deepak Kumar, Pooja Ghatkar, Omkar Singh, Anjum Moudgil and Meghana Sajjanar will be competing in the 10th Asian Air Gun championship to be staged at the Wako-City Gymnasium, Wako Saitama, Japan, from December 8 to 11.

Gagan Narang will be one of the major medal prospects for India.

Some of the best Indian shooters, Jitu Rai, Gagan Narang, Heena Sidhu, Yashaswini Deswal, Ravi Kumar, Deepak Kumar, Pooja Ghatkar, Omkar Singh, Anjum Moudgil and Meghana Sajjanar will be competing in the 10th Asian Air Gun championship to be staged at the Wako-City Gymnasium, Wako Saitama, Japan, from December 8 to 11.

In the championship which will also serve as the qualification event for the Youth Olympic Games to be staged in October 2018, India will field a 36-member squad.

Host Japan will have the biggest contingent of 56 shooters, while China will have 36. Chinese Taipei (30), Singapore (30), Mongolia (25), Iran (24), Kuwait (17), Vietnam (16), Kazakhstan (15) and Bangladesh (11) will be some of the other teams, in the 27-team competition that will feature 407 shooters.

Apart from the men’s and women’s events in air rifle and air pistol, there will be events in the junior and youth categories in the 10-metre competition.

After the technical meeting and pre-event training, the championship will start with the air rifle for men, women and juniors on December 8.

The junior women and the youth finals will be held on December 9. The format will follow for the air pistol events, with the men’s, women’s and junior men’s finals held on December 10 and the other three on the following day.
