More gold for India in Junior World Cup

It was a golden harvest for Indian shooting as it swept the mixed air pistol, mixed air rifle and the standard pistol gold medals, to go beyond the reach of China on top of the medals table in the Junior World Cup in Suhl, Germany, on Thursday.

It was a golden harvest for Indian shooting as it swept the mixed air pistol, mixed air rifle and the standard pistol gold medals, to go beyond the reach of China on top of the medals table in the Junior World Cup in Suhl, Germany, on Thursday.

With the curtains about to come down on the competition, the Indian medals tally was an impressive 26, with 15 gold, two silver and nine bronze.

China was a distant second with six gold, nine silver and five bronze medals, while Italy had 15 medals with three gold and five silver.

Czech Republic surged to the third spot with four gold and a bronze.

Quite impressively, in the mixed air pistol event, the Indian teams took both the gold and silver to assert their supremacy. Pistol prodigy Jaspal Rana who is the chief coach had a personal moment of pride as his daughter Devanshi Rana won the gold in partnership with Saurabh Chaudhary, with a 4.5 point victory over compatriots Manu Bhaker and Anmol.

In mixed air rifle, Elavenil Valarivan continued to spell magic, as she in partnership with Divyansh Singh Panwar won the gold with a world junior record score of 498.6, two points ahead of Germany which had topped qualification, half a point ahead of the India-B team.

In junior men’s standard pistol, Vijayveer Sidhu took the gold with 576 and the Indian team won the gold to enrich the collection. The gold medals were swept in the junior women’s standard pistol event as well, through Vishwa Dahiya, Anshika Satendra and Tanu Rawal.
