National selection: Abirami impresses in 50m rifle prone

Srinith Abirami of Tamil Nadu overwhelmed a strong field with a score of 625.9 in women’s 50-metre rifle prone event in the shooting National selection trials at the Dr. Karni Singh Range, Tughlakabad, on Friday.

In 10m air pistol, Amanpreet Singh shot 577 to take top spot.

Srinith Abirami of Tamil Nadu overwhelmed a strong field with a score of 625.9 in women’s 50-metre rifle prone event in the shooting National selection trials at the Dr. Karni Singh Range, Tughlakabad, on Friday.

Anjum Moudgil was a distant second with a score of 617.7 ahead of World Cup silver medallist Lajja Gauswami. Other prone experts Kuheli Gangulee (616.5) and former World Champion Tejaswini Sawant (615.4) were placed fourth and fifth respectively.

In men’s air pistol , Amanpreet Singh prevailed ahead of Pawan Yadav and Gaurav Rana. Qualification toppers Omprakash Mitharwal and Jitendra Vibhute who had shot 581, placed sixth and seventh respectively. Two other leading shooters Deepak Sharma and Omkar Singh, shot 576, and missed qualification by one point.

Men: 10m air pistol: 1. Amanpreet Singh 1999.6 (577); 2. Pawan Yadav 197.2 (579); 3. Gaurav Rana 176.6 (577).

Women: 50m rifle prone: 1. V. Srinithi Abirami 625.9; 2. Anjum Moudgil 617.7; 3. Lajjja Gauswami 616.6.
