National shooting selection trials: Arjun Singh Cheema tops 50m free pistol

Arjun Singh Cheema did extremely well to top the 50m free pistol event in the men's and junior category at the third National shooting selection trials on Friday.

Arjun Singh Cheema topped in the 50-metre free pistol in both the men’s and junior section with a score of 560 in the third National shooting selection trials at the Dr. Karni Singh Range, Tughlakabad, on Friday. Om Prakash Mitharval and Amanpreet Singh followed Arjun, but some of the seasoned shooters like Omkar Singh (552) and Jitu Rai (551) were pushed to the fourth and fifth spots in the event that has ceased to be part of the Olympics.

In the 25-metre standard pistol, Gurpreet Singh topped with 577, seven points ahead of Ankur Goel.

25m standard pistol: Men: 1. Gurpreet Singh 577; 2. Ankur Goel 570; 3. Amanpreet Singh 569. 50m free pistol: Men: 1. Arjun Singh Cheema 560; 2. Om Prakash Mitharval 554; 3. Amanpreet Singh 554. Junior men: 1. Arjun Singh Cheema 560; 2. Gaurav Rana 543; 3. Abhishek Arya 529.
