National Shotgun C’ship: Simran Preet Kaur Johal takes lead in women’s skeet

Punjab’s Simran Preet Kaur Johal tallies 72 out of 75 at the 62nd National Shotgun championship in Jaipur.

Simran Preet Kaur Johal of Punjab led with 72 out of 75 following rounds of 25, 24, 23 in women’s skeet at the 62nd National Shotgun championship held at the JDA Range on Sunday.

Maheshwari Chauhan followed with 69, while Asees Chhina, reigning National champion Rashmmi Rathore, Parinaaz Dhaliwal and Shambhavi Kumari followed on 65. Another former national champion, Saniya Sheikh, was on 63, following a below par second-round of 18. Pooja Vishwakarma Ganemat Sekhon, Zahira Mufaddal were placed above Saniya on 64.

Arti Singh — who has been the National champion many times — was not at her best and had rounds of 18, 19 and 21, for a total of 58. Two more rounds will be followed by the final for the top six on Monday.

In the junior section, Simran Preet Kaur Johal was in the lead on 72, seven points ahead of Asees Chhina, Parinaaz Dhaliwal and Shambhavi Kumari.
