Shotgun World Cup: Kynan tops in men’s trap

With three more rounds to go on Tuesday, day three of competitions, the Hyderabad lad will fancy his chances.

Kynan Chenai missed one bird to shoot a score of 49 out of 50.

Olympian Kynan Chenai on Monday emerged as the top Indian after scoring 49 out of 50 on day one of qualifying in the Men’s Trap event at the ISSF World Cup stage in Al Ain, United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The 28-year-old, who competed at the Rio Olympics, missed one bird to shoot a score of 49 out of 50.

With three more rounds to go on Tuesday, day three of competitions, the Hyderabad lad will fancy his chances.

However, there was stiff competition, in a strong field of 142 shooters, as 11 shooters shot the perfect score of 50 in two rounds, while 22 others were on 49. Prithviraj Tondaiman shot 48, following rounds of 24 and 24. He was on par with 29 others on 48.

The third member of the Indian team, Zoravar Singh Sandhu shot 47, and there were 28 others with that score.

Three more rounds will be followed by the final for the top-six.

In women’s trap in which Caroe Cormener of France and Kirsty Barr of Britain won the Olympic quota places with the gold and silver medals respectively, Olympian Shagun Chowdhary shot 115 and missed the final by five points.

Shagun wound up well with rounds of 23 and 25, but had dropped eight birds earlier in the first three rounds.

Rajeshwari Kumari shot a series of 23, 23, 20, 20 and 23 for the 50th spot among 71 shooters, while Varsha Varman struggled to 92.
