The number of Test centuries made by Virat Kohli as captain in away Test matches, including his 153 in Centurion. Only eight other captains have made seven or more centuries in away Tests. But Kohli is by far the quickest to reach this landmark. He did so in just 22 innings and in 15 Tests. The previous quickest was Australian Steve Waugh who did it in 28 innings in August 2001. This week in 1999 on February 7: Indian leg-spinner Anil Kumble captured all 10 Pakistani wickets for 74 runs in the second innings in the Feroz Shah Kotla Test match in Delhi. He thus emulated the feat of England off-spinner Jim Laker (10/53 against Australia in Manchester in July 1956) to become the second bowler in Test history to claim all 10 wickets in the same innings of a Test match!

 

Queries Corner In the recent Ashes series four Australian bowlers claimed 20+ wickets in the series. Is this the first time in Tests? — Rajendra Raja, Belgaum This, in fact, is only the third time in Test history, when four bowlers from the same side have managed to claim 20 or more wickets in a Test series. The list below has the details: * West Indies (Ian Bishop 27 wkts, Courtney Walsh 26, Kenneth Benjamin 23, Curtly Ambrose 21) in 1995 (in England). * Australia (Stuart Clark 26, Shane Warne 23, Glenn McGrath 21, Brett Lee 20) vs England in 2006/07 (in Australia). * Australia (Pat Cummins 23, Mitchell Starc 22, Josh Hazlewood 21, Nathan Lyon 21) vs England in 2017/18 (in Australia)+ + the last and recent instance in the above list, all the four bowlers were the only ones to claim at least a wicket in the entire series! What is the percentage of drawn Tests this decade from 2010, compared to the previous decade (2000 to 2009) – Ajit Bhave, Pune From 2000 to 2009, in 464 Test matches, we have had 350 Tests that had results and the remaining 114 matches were drawn, which is 24.57%. Cheteshwar Pujara, in the Centurion Test match, was run out twice. How often has this happened in Tests and how many Indians have this dubious distinction? – Ajay Kumar, Mumbai Cheteshwar Pujara, in Centurion, became the 23rd batsman to be run out in both innings of a Test match. This has now happened on 25 occasions, with Australian Mark Taylor and Ian Healy being dismissed so twice! Pujara, incidentally, is the first Indian to have this dubious record. The first occasion this happened in Test cricket was way back in January 1908 when Aussie Percy McAlister, in the Ashes Test in Melbourne, was run out in both innings!
