The number of centuries scored by Rohit Sharma in Twenty20 cricket – following his unbeaten ton against England at Bristol – is now the most by an Indian batsman in this format. It was also his third in T20 internationals, thus equalling the tally of Kiwi Colin Munro. Among Indians, Suresh Raina and Virat Kohli have four centuries each in T20 cricket. For the record, Chris Gayle has the most in this format – 21 centuries! Also, Sharma is the only player from Asian with five. Two more players have hit four: Pakistan’s Kamran Akmal and Ahmed Shehzad.

The number of wickets claimed by Kuldeep Yadav while conceding 25 runs are now the best figures by a left-arm spinner in One-Day International cricket, bettering the effort of Murali Kartik (6/27 against Australia at Mumbai in October 2007). For the record, Yadav’s figures are also the best by a left-arm wrist spinner (left-arm chinaman) in ODIs. Aussie Brad Hogg claimed 5/32 against the West Indies at Melbourne on January 14, 2005, and 5/41 against Sri Lanka at Dambulla on February 20, 2004, before that. Interestingly, Kuldeep Yadav is the only left-arm wrist spinner to take a five-wicket haul in a T20I match, claiming 5/24 against England at Manchester in July!

Queries CornerIn the Bristol T20I match, M. S. Dhoni claimed five catches against England. Is this a record? – Atul Panchal, Ahmedabad M. S. Dhoni’s five catches are the most claimed by any player in a T20I match. However, Afghanistan’s Mohd Shahzad claimed five dismissals (three catches plus two stumpings) against Oman at Abu Dhabi on November 29, 2015. A total of 14 keepers have claimed four dismissals in a T20I match, with Dhoni being the only one to do it on three separate occasions. India has now won five consecutive bilateral T20I series. Is this its best such sequence in this format? – V. Ramu, Pune This sequence is by far India’s best performance in T20I bilateral series, which began with the victory over New Zealand in India in November 2017, and up to the recent one in England. Before this, India had won three consecutive bilateral series between June 2010 and June 2011. How often has a player claimed a four-wicket haul and also scored at least 30 runs in the same T20I cricket match? – B. D. Swami, Chennai In all, seven players have achieved this feat in T20 international cricket, with Hardik Pandya being the latest to do so against England at Bristol. He is the first Indian player to achieve this feat. West Indian Dwayne Bravo is the only one to do it twice. The others to do so are Shane Watson, Mohammad Hafeez, Samiullah Shenwari, Mashrafe Mortaza and Shakib Al Hasan. Bangladesh’s 43 at Antigua is its lowest in a Test innings. How many Test-playing nations have not been dismissed for less than 50 runs? – Srihari Rao, Visakhapatnam If we exclude the new entrants to Test cricket, Ireland and Afghanistan, then Sri Lanka (71) and Zimbabwe (51) are the only sides not to be dismissed for totals less than 50 in Test cricket. Australian Billy Stanlake claimed 4/8 in his four overs at Harare. Despite conceding just eight runs, he could not manage a single maiden. Has this happened before in T20Is? – Abhay Chaturvedi, Agra There are several instances in T20 internationals. However, the fewest runs conceded in full quota of four overs without a maiden over is by Zimbabwean Chris Mpofu (4-0-6-1) against Canada at King City in October 2008.
