Bhambri, Prajnesh go down in US Open qualifiers

India’s Yuki Bhambri went down 6-4, 1-6, 3-6 to Japan’s Go Sodea in the qualifying round of the US Open on Tuesday. Prajnesh Gunneswaran too suffered a 1-6, 4-6 defeat against Germany’s Yannick Hanfmann.

Yuki Bhambri started on a winning note in the men’s singles, winning the first set. But things went haywire as he conceded the second and third sets rather meekly.

The Indian, who is not quite known for maintaining his form, started on a winning note in the men’s singles, winning the first set. But things went haywire as he conceded the second set rather meekly. The third one saw the 25-year-old failing to return to game — dashing the hopes of making it count in the US Open.

India’s poor show in the qualifiers continued with Prajnesh Gunneswaran facing a 1-6, 4-6 defeat against Germany’s Yannick Hanfmann. Without even allowing the Chennai-based player to settle down, the German toyed with him, thus ensuring that the world came crashing on the Indian youngster.
