China Open: Sania, Bopanna shine in Beijing

The Hyderabad girl with Peng Shuai (China) got the better of Elise Mertens (Belgium) and Demi Schuurs (The Netherlands); Pablo Cuevas (Uruguay) and Rohan Bopanna pipped Mao-Xin Gong and Ze Zhang (China).

Sania Mirza, in partnership with Shuai Peng of China, got past Elise Mertens of Belgium and Demi Schuurs of The Netherlands in the pre-quarterfinals after a bye in the first round.

Sania Mirza and Rohan Bopanna progressed into the quarterfinals of the China Open in the women’s and men’s Tour events in Beijing on Tuesday.

Sania in partnership with Shuai Peng of China got past Elise Mertens of Belgium and Demi Schuups of The Netherlands in the pre-quarterfinals after a bye in the first round.

Bopanna with Pablo Cuevas of Uruguay sailed past the Chinese duo of Mao-Xin Gong and Ze Zhang.

In the $125,000 Challenger in Chinese Taipei, third seed Marius Copil of Romania fired 14 aces and converted three of six breakpoints to beat Sumit Nagal in straight sets.

Ramkumar Ramanathan sharpened his doubles skills to pull off a 10-8 victory in the super tie-break in partnership with Hans Hack Verougo of Mexigo against second seeds Ruan Roelofse (South Africa) and Andreas Siljestrom (Sweden).

In the ITF women’s event in Colombo, Dhruthi Venugopal and Jennifer Luikham progressed into the second round of singles. In the men’s Futures in Thailand, Sidharth Rawat and Sasi Kumar Mukund progressed into the second round of singles.
