Divij in European Open doubles final

Divij Sharan and Scott Lipsky came back from being a set down to beat Ivan Dodig and Marcel Granollers 0-6, 6-4, 10-5 and reach the European Open final.

India's Divij Sharan (right), in partnership with Scott Lipsky, has reached the final of the European Open in Belgium.

Divij Sharan and Scott Lipsky of the US bounced back from a poor start to beat the second seeds Ivan Dodig of Croatia and Marcel Granollers of Spain 0-6, 6-4, 10-5 in the doubles semifinals of the €660,375 European Open tennis tournament in Belgium on Friday.

Another doubles specialist Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan, in partnership with Christopher Rungkat of Indonesia, outplayed Sumit Nagal and his Italian partner Riccardo Ghedin for the loss of one game in the semifinals of the $125,000 Challenger in China.

The Sood twins, Chandril and Lakshit, kept the Indian challenge alive by making the doubles semifinals. In Malaysia, Arjun Kadhe made the doubles final with Lukas Ollert of Germany, while Karunuday Singh was beaten in the singles semifinals in Thailand. Pranjala Yadlapalli was in robust form as she made the singles and doubles final of the $15,000 ITF women’s tournament in Colombo. Interestingly, Pranjala and Rutuja Bhosale, the two former Asian junior champions, combined for the doubles final entry. Kanika Vaidya progressed in both singles and doubles in Egypt, while qualifier Nandini Sharma battled for three hours and 18 minutes to beat wild card Lucia Quiterio in the first round of another women’s event in Portugal.
