AITA-ITF conference call over India-Pakistan Davis Cup tie cancelled again

The tele-conference between the Indian tennis federation and ITF’s security consultants on the upcoming Davis Cup tie between India and Pakistan was cancelled on Tuesday.

The planned teleconference between the AITA, Davis Cup team captain Mahesh Bhupathi, with the ITF and the concerned security agency in Pakistan, which was postponed from Monday, did not take place.

The International Tennis Federation (ITF) took a concrete decision to let the Davis Cup Committee decide on the fate of the tie scheduled to be held in Islamabad on September 14 and 15, between India and Pakistan. With time running, it was a step forward in the current scenario, as the ITF was trying in vain to impress upon the All India Tennis Association (AITA) about the strong security arrangements at the venue of the tie. The planned tele-conference between the AITA, Davis Cup team captain Mahesh Bhupathi, with the ITF and the concerned security agency in Pakistan, which was postponed from Monday, did not take place.

READ: Anisimova withdraws from US Open following father's death The Davis Cup committee with Ismail El Shafei of Egypt as the Chairman and seven members including the Olympic gold medallist and multiple Grand Slam champion Mark Woodforde of Australia, will take up the matter with the concerned national federations. The AITA had quoted the prevailing tension between the two countries and had demanded the ITF to take a suo moto decision to either postpone the tie or shift it to a neutral venue. Once the Davis Cup committee decides on the subject, it will convey the same to the ITF Board of Directors, for suitable follow up action.
