Two-time National women’s tennis champion, 17-year-old Mahak Jain has got a call from the National federation to be part of the Indian team for the FedCup Asia-Oceania group-1 competition to be staged in Kazakhstan in February.

Rutuja Bhosale, who was part of the original five-member team, pulled out with a shoulder injury.

Even as Rutuja was getting replaced, Pranjala Yadlapalli also withdrew with an injury, paving the way for national hard court and grass court champion Riya Bhatia to fill the gap.

Ankita Raina and Karman Kaur Thandi, ranked 205 and 207 respectively, preparing for the Australian Open in Melbourne at the moment, will be the leading players in the team, along with doubles specialist Prarthana Thombare.

Pranjala and Rutuja were ranked 288 and 344 respectively, while their replacements, Mahak and Riya are ranked 521 and 555 respectively.

Vishaal Uppal will be the captain, and Ankita Bhambri will be the coach.
