Agnieszka Radwanska defeated Elina Svitolina 6-1, 7-6.

Number one seed Agnieszka Radwanska secured the WTA Connecticut Open title with a 6-1 7-6 (7-3) victory over Elina Svitolina in New Haven.

The 27-year-old Pole, who thrashed defending champion Petra Kvitova 6-1 6-1 in the semi-finals, had won both of her previous meetings with Svitolina and looked on course for another regulation triumph when she raced away with the first set.

But the Ukrainian dug in during the second set, forcing seven break points and taking three of them before eventually succumbing in the tie-break.

The victory provided a welcome boost for world number four Radwanska following her shock first-round exit at the Rio Olympics to Zheng Saisai.

Radwanska did not drop a single set throughout the tournament which will leave her in confident mood ahead of the upcoming US Open.
