Injured Sushil Kumar to wait longer for PWL bow

In what was another unsettling development for the wrestler, his Commonwealth Games participation is now also in doubt.

Sushil Kumar could be prevented from participating in the Commonwealth Games if the police files an FIR against him.

Sushil Kumar will not participate in Delhi Sultan’s second Pro Wrestling League fixture on Friday as he is nursing a knee injury. The wrestler was picked by the franchise for ₹55 lakhs for the third edition of the league, which began on January 9.

The troubles don’t seem to end for the 2012 London Olympics bronze medallist; according to a report by the Times of India , the Wrestling Federation of India has indicated that Sushil may not participate in the Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia, if the Delhi Police files a First Information Report (FIR) against him for his involvement in a fracas with fellow wrestler Parveen Rana. Sushil had reportedly scuffled with Rana during a trial for the Commonwealth Games berth. Sushil’s supporters had allegedly entered the brawl as well.

'Unfortunate' incident

In a letter to the WFI, a portion of which was disclosed by the Indian Express , Sushil has expressed surprise at fingers being pointed at him, and denounced the incident, calling it “unfortunate.”

Sushil had defeated Rana in the semifinals of the trials, before clinching the Commonwealth Games berth with a victory in the final.

The Commonwealth Games will be held in April this year.
