WTA announces season restart on August 3

The WTA has announced a plan to restart the suspended season at the Palermo Ladies Open in Italy on August 3.
In a statement, the principal organizing body of women's professional tennis released a provisional calendar for the rest of the season and added that a five-month break due to the coronavirus pandemic would come to an end, subject to approval from the Italian government.
The WTA will visit Asia after the conclusion of the French Open. While the China Open is scheduled to happen on October 12, the WTA Finals at Shenzhen will take place from November 9-15. The tournaments, however, will be held behind closed doors.
"For now, the vital energy of spectators in stadiums will be greatly missed, but our broadcast and social media partners are exploring new ways to engage with our fantastic fans," said WTA chief executive Steve Simon.
