Neeraj, Karamjit for Asian race walking

With April's Commonwealth Games in mind, India sends its second string for Asian race walking.

With National champions K.T. Irfan and Soumya Baby keeping themselves fresh for April’s Commonwealth Games (CWG), in Australia, Haryana’s Neeraj Rathi and Karamjit Kaur will be seen in action in the Asian 20km race walking championships, at Nomi, Japan, on Sunday.

Both, Neeraj and Karamjit, won the men’s and women’s bronze medals at the Nationals, in New Delhi, in February, and will be India’s official entries at the Asians.'The top two finishers, in the men’s and women’s sections, are being sent for Commonwealth Games.

There will be many other Indians in action in the open event. Sunil, Eknath Sambhaji, Kulwant Singh and Vikash Singh will figure in the men’s 20km, while Shanti Kumari and Ravina will walk in the women’s event.

The Indian team for the IAAF World Race Walking Championships, in China, will be picked from the Nomi event.
