Four days after doubles’ specialist Aparna Balan took Badminton Association of India (BAI) to Kerala High Court following her omission from the Indian squad for the upcoming Asian Games, India No. 3 Vaishnavi Reddy’s grandmother filed an Extraordinary writ petition in the Delhi High Court on Thursday questioning exclusion of her grand-daughter from the team.

The petitioner, 70-year-old Sowjanya Reddy has also made Union of India, chief coach P. Gopi Chand and Indian Olympic Association as respondents.

In her prayer, the petitioner has sought the following:

  • "to include Ms. Jakka Vaishnavi Reddy in the Indian Women’s team for the Asian Games 2018;
  • “quashing of the Minutes of the Selection Committee meeting dated NIL issued by the respondent No. 2 (BAI) containing the list of selected players for Asian Games 2018 to the extent it has excluded Ms. Jakka Vaishnavi Reddy;
  • “quashing of the Circular dated 09-05-2018 issued by the respondent No. 2 (BAI) to the extent it pertains to the selection of the players for all tournaments up till 31st December, 2018;
  • “Pass such other order(s), direction(s) as this Hon’ble Court deems fit in the facts and circumstances of the case.”
