P.V. Sindhu and Saina Nehwal have moved into the quarters of world championships.

Key highlights:

6:28pm: The Indians are still in contention with Saina, Sindhu, Praneeth and the mixed doubles pair of Satwiksairaj and Ponnappa making into the last-eight stage. Thanks you folks and do tune back for the live quarterfinal action tomorrow.

6:12pm: Match point for Sindhu and she seals it with a 21-10, 21-18 win to move into the quarterfinals.

6:05pm: Sindhu back in the lead again, but can't afford to relax against Sung Ji-hyun.

5:55pm: The Korean has turned the table as Sindhu trails 7-10 to Ji-hyun in the second game.

5:45pm: P.V. Sindhu wins the first game 21-10 in her third round match against Korea's Sung Ji-hyun. Looks like it would be walk in the park for Sindhu.

5:35pm: The last Indian in action today, P.V. Sindhu takes on Korea's Sung Ji-hyun in her third round match. Already a strong start as she takes a 14-6 lead in the first game.

5:29pm: Praneeth cruises into the quarterfinals after beating Hans-Kristian Vittinghus of Denmark 21-13, 21-11.

5:09pm: Hans-Kristian is struggling big time at the moment with Praneeth completely dominating.

4:57pm: Praneeth takes the first game 21-13, aggressive approach from the world No. 26.

4:54pm: Praneeth keeps the pressure on, giving no chance to the Danish shuttler to make a comeback in the game, not possible with a 18-9 lead.

4:47pm: Sai Praneeth now in action and immediately takes the 11-6 lead in the first game over Hans-Kristian Vittinghus.

4:32pm: P.V. Sindhu and Sai Praneeth are the two Indian shuttlers remaining to play their respective third round matches in a short while from now. So, stay tuned to this space for the updates.

4:25pm: Kidambi Srikanth's campaign ends at World Championships. He loses his third round match to Malaysia's Liew Daren 18-21, 18-21.

4:20pm: The second game is being a see-saw one with none of the players not ready to give away an inch. Srikanth can't afford to concede this one.

4:12pm: After being level at 8-8, Srikanth jumps to 11-9 lead in the second game. Liew Daren not giving it away as he claws back to make it 14-14.

4:00pm: Srikanth loses the first game to Daren 18-21. But the 25-year-old makes a good start in the second, by quickly grabbing a 5-3 lead over the Malaysian shuttler.

3:55pm: Now let's move our focus to men's singles where Kidambi Srikanth is trailing 13-17 in the first game against Liew Daren of Malaysia.

3:52pm: Saina Nehwal thrashes Ratchanok Intanon of Thailand 21-16, 21-19 in straight games to enter quarters of BWF World Championships. She plays Carolina Marin of Spain in her last-eight match. She also becomes the first woman to reach the tournament's quarterfinal for eight consecutive times.

 

3:43pm: That was some rally from both the players, Saina leading 17-13. Not far away from booking her spot in the quarters.

3:41pm: Saina now with a four-point lead in the second game over Intanon.

3:38pm: Saina goes into the game interval with a 11-8 lead over Intanon. Can she close the match from here?

3:32pm: Intanon's game looks a bit offcolour today, Saina already with a 6-4 lead.

3:26pm: Saina takes the first game 21-16. The real test starts now to keep her momentum going in the second.

3:16pm: At the break of first game, Saina leads 11-8. She needs to keep the pressure on the Thai shuttler. Moreover, Saina has looked the better player so far, but Intanon still has a chance to bounce back.

3:09pm: Intanon now with a 8-6 lead over Saina in the first game, errors from both the players.

2:50pm: World No. 3 Shi Yuqi has it easy as he thrashes Lin Dan in straight games 21-15, 21-9 to move into the quarterfinals.

2:04pm: The men's singles third round match between two Chinese compatriots - Shi Yuqi and Lin Dan gets underway. Meanwhile, Kento Momota beats Anders Antonsen 13-21, 21-17, 21-8 to enter quarters.

1:11pm: Top seed Viktor Axelsen of Denmark is through to the quarterfinals after beating Hong Kong's Angus Ng Ka Long 21-19, 21-18. In women's singles, Carolina Marin also entered the last-eight stage after beating Sayaka Sato of Japan 21-7, 21-13 in straight games.

12:30pm: Satwiksairaj Rankireddy/Ashwini Ponnappa through to the mixed doubles quarters after beating Goh Soon Huat/Shevon Jemie Lai of Malaysia 20-22, 21-14, 21-6. [ Report ]

In a high-octane women's singles match, Saina Nehwal takes on fourth-seed Ratchanok Intanon of Thailand. While P.V. Sindhu meets Korea's Sung Ji-hyun.

The round three in men's singles will see two Indians in action on Thursday. Sai Praneeth will face world No. 26 Hans-Kristian Vittinghus of Denmark. In another match, world No. 6 Kidambi Srikanth meets Malaysia's Liew Daren.

Praneeth advanced to the third round after beating Spain’s Luis Enrique Penalver 21-18, 21-11. Srikanth beat Pablo Abian 21-15, 12-21, 21-14 in the second round game that lasted 62 minutes.

On the other hand, Saina had an easy outing in her second round, as the Indian ace beat Aliye Demirbag 21-17, 21-8 in straight games. Sindhu too didn't had to break sweat as she cruised into round three after beating Indonesia's Fitriani 21-14, 21-9.
