NBA wrap: Lonzo Ball becomes youngest NBA player to record triple-double

Lakers' Lonzo Ball became the youngest NBA player to accomplish the feat, at age 20 years and 15 days, surpassing LeBron James' previous record of 20 years and 20 days.

Lonzo Ball not only recorded career triple-double No. 1 against the Bucks, but also became the youngest NBA player to accomplish the feat, at the age 20 years and 15 days.

It was just a matter of time before Lonzo Ball got his first career triple-double.

That time arrived Saturday in Ball's 13th career NBA game. The Lakers rookie not only recorded career triple-double No. 1 against the Bucks, he became the youngest NBA player to accomplish the feat, at age 20 years, 15 days. LeBron James held the previous record of 20 years, 20 days.

Unfortunately, Ball's stat milestone came in a 98-90 loss to the Bucks. He posted 19 points, 13 assists and 12 rebounds.

The last few days have been brutal for Ball. He's been mired in a terrible shooting slump that saw him earlier in the week rank worst in the NBA in shooting percentage inside the paint (34.4 percent) and second-worst outside the paint (25.0 percent), according to  ESPN . Videos of some of his wayward shots, and defenders ignoring him off the ball, were ridiculed on social media.

Then there's the situation with Ball's younger brother LiAngelo, who is reportedly being detained along with two UCLA teammates in China on suspicion of shoplifting.

So the triple-double takes some of the sting out of hard times. The shooting will come around (Ball was 7-of-12 from the floor Saturday, including 3-of-5 beyond the arc). Even when Ball's not shooting well he's doing so many other things to help the Lakers. Saturday was a sign of things to come for the rising star.

STUDS OF THE NIGHT

DeMarcus Cousins had 35 points and 15 boards in the Pelicans 111-103 win over the Clippers.

Kevin Love led the Cavs in points and rebounding (29-15) in a 111-104 victory over the Mavericks.

DUD OF THE NIGHT

The Hawks (2-11) looked terrible in a 113-94 loss to the Wizards, and the team's leading scorer, Dennis Schroder, really struggled. The point guard knocked down only two of his 16 shots (0 for 3 from 3-point territory) and finished with seven points.

HIGHLIGHTS

Knicks big man Kristaps Porzingis made grab-and-slam with one hand look like child's play in New York's 118-91 win over the Kings.

 

Bucks guard Malcolm Brogdon channeled his inner Greek Freak on a posterizing dunk against the Lakers.

 

WHAT'S NEXT

Raptors (7-4) at Celtics (11-2) — The Celtics will likely be without its leading scorer, Kyrie Irving, who is listed as doubtful with a facial fracture . But its second leading scorer, Al Horford is listed as probable after missing the last two games with a concussion.

For the Raptors, DeMar DeRozan (24.7 ppg) is a threat every time down court, but backcourt mate Kyle Lowry is scoring at a 12.9 clip, roughly half his 22.4 average from last season.
