Chris Paul thinks Rockets star James Harden should win the MVP again this season.
Houston fell to Giannis Antetokounmpo, Harden’s biggest competition for the award, and the Bucks on Tuesday, 108-94. After the loss, Paul said the head-to-head matchup should not factor into who comes out on top in the voting.
"James went on a historic run. Know what I mean?" Paul told reporters, via ESPN . "Obviously, I'm biased about the MVP and whoever or what not, but those of you that decide it on head-to-head games with a few games left in the season, good luck with that.”
Harden is averaging 36.2 points, 7.5 assists and 6.5 rebounds this season. He’s shooting 43.8 percent from the field and 36.2 percent from 3-point range.
Harden tallied 30 or more points in 32 straight games from mid-December to late February, a mark topped only by Wilt Chamberlain.
"I get to see James play a lot more," Paul said. "You've got to understand that me saying that doesn't mean that Giannis hasn't had an amazing season and stuff like that. He's been great for his team and all that, but I see what James does every night, too."
Antetokounmpo finished with 19 points and 14 rebounds in the Bucks' win over Houston.
“As I said in the past, I don't want to think about (the MVP),” Antetokounmpo said after the game. “I just come here try to do my job and try to win games."
The Bucks enters play Wednesday leading the Eastern Conference while the Rockets is in fourth place in the West.
