Croatia Grand Chess Tour: Anand held for the eighth time

Five-time World Champion Viswanathan Anand will be hoping to finish the tournament with a win against Hikaru Nakamura of USA.

Viswanathan Anand held Sergey Karjakin of Russia as all battles ended with honours even in the 10th and penultimate round of the Croatia Grand Chess Tour here on Saturday.

Anand now has eight draws and two defeats in 10 rounds of the competition. He is in 11th place with four points in the 12-player tournament.

The Indian Grandmaster will face bottom-placed Hikaru Nakamura of USA, who has 3.5 points, in the final round.

World Champion Magnus Carlsen is the tournament leader with 7 points and Wesley So, with 6.5 points, is the only player who can beat the Norwegian to the 2019 Grand Chess Tour title.

Viswanathan Anand (4) drew with Sergey Karjakin (Rus,4.5).

Wesley So (USA, 6.5) drew with Magnus Carlsen (Nor, 7).

Fabiano Caruana (USA, 5.5) drew with Shakhriyar Mamedyarov (Aze, 4).

Ding Liren (Chn, 5) drew with Levon Aronian (Arm, 5.5).

Maxime Vachier-Lagrave (Fra, 4.5) drew with Ian Nepomniachtchi (Rus, 5.5).

Anish Giri (Ned, 4.5) drew with Hikaru Nakamura (USA, 3.5).
