International Master Sayantan Das has earned his third and final Grandmaster norm in the Czech Pardubice Open 2017.

Twenty-year-old Sayantan, who was seeded 81st, performed well to secure 6.5 points in the nine-round tournament. It helped him achieve the 15th rank and gather 25 Elo rating points. Sayantan, whose Elo rating was 2399 prior to the Czech event, needs to reach the 2500 mark to claim his GM title.

“Sayantan can get the required Elo rating points by playing some tournaments in India as well,” said said Bengal Chess Association Secretary Atanu Lahiri. “Another IM, Arghyadeep Das, who achieved his third GM norm two years ago, is also closing in on 2500 Elo rating points and his GM title,” Lahiri added.
