The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has appointed former India all-rounder Sridharan Sriram as the technical consultant for the national team for the Asia Cup and the T20 World Cup.

While a few media outlets claimed that Sriram was appointed as the coach, BCB president Nazmul Hassan Papon confirmed to Sportstar that Sriram “has been appointed as the technical consultant and not coach. His tenure will be from the Asia Cup until the T20 World Cup.”

Sriram represented India in eight ODIs between 2000 and 2004 and also served as Australia’s assistant and spin-bowling coach for a long time. He quit the Australia role a few weeks ago to focus on his role with the Indian Premier League franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore.

In 2016, Sriram took charge as the spin bowling coach of the Australian team and continued for more than six years.

While the BCB believes that Sriram’s experience will help the players ahead of two big-ticket events, Russell Domingo will continue to be the coach of the Test and limited-overs side. Since Sriram has worked with the Australian team for a long time, he has a solid idea about the conditions and the BCB is hopeful that his inclusion will benefit the players for the T20 World Cup.
