Rahmat Shah played a gritty knock of 102 against Bangladesh on Thursday to become the first Afghanistan cricketer to score a century in Test cricket.

At the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong, Rahmat crafted his 187-ball knock with 10 boundaries and a couple of sixes.

Opting to bat, Afghanistan -- which is playing its third Test -- lost an early wicket in opener Ihshanullah. But the 26-year-old Rahmat built a 120-run partnership with Asghar Afghan to steady the ship, before being caught by Soumya Sarkar off Nayeem Hasan.

In Afghanistan’s last Test outing -- against Ireland in Dehradun earlier this year -- Rahmat had missed out on a ton by two runs in the first innings. In the second innings, he played a classic knock of 76 to ensure a victory for the Afghans.
