‘Chapter closed’ — Pietersen calls it quits

Former England batsman Kevin Pietersen, who was unceremoniously dropped from the national squad in 2013-14, carried his stardom to franchise cricket.

Pietersen appeared in 104 Tests, 136 ODIs and 37 T20Is for England before turning to the likes of IPL, BBL and PSL.

Former England skipper Kevin Pietersen is set to hang up his boots following his Pakistan Super League (PSL) stint starting on Thursday.

The stylish right-hander was unceremoniously dropped following England’s 2013-14 Ashes humiliation Down Under.

But the 37-year-old remained a hot property in franchise cricket leagues across the globe. He also took up commentary as his new profession when off the field.

Pietersen confirmed the development on Instagram. “Countless goodbyes to @jessicalibertyx & my kids as a cricket player & this one this evening is the last one I’ll ever have to do,” he wrote.

“I’ve hated every goodbye but also known it’s work so just gotten on with it. The journey has been absolutely amazing & for the next 3/4 weeks I’ll be a current professional & then it’s chapter closed! Had my time & loved it but the endless goodbyes & travel needs to calm down now. Cricket has been the best!,” Pietersen added.

 

Pietersen appeared in 104 Tests, 136 ODIs and 37 T20Is for England before turning to the likes of IPL, BBL and PSL. With 8, 181 Test runs at an average of 47.28 — 23 centuries and 35 half-centuries — and 4,422 ODI runs at an average of 41.32 — nine centuries and 25 half-centuries — he remains a legend in his own right.
