R. Ashwin excels with the ball for Nottinghamshire in Division One of the County Championship.

Ravichandran Ashwin took five for 59 and top-scored with 41 in Nottinghamshire's second innings - in a chase of 255 - in the County Championship Division One match against Somerset at the Cooper Associates County Ground in Taunton on Tuesday. Ashwin's efforts were ultimately in vain, with Nottinghamshire losing by 132 runs.

The Indian off-break bowler, who is one of the two overseas players for the club, took three for 93 in the first innings but his second-innings five-for kept Nottinghamshire in contention for a win after being restricted to 241 in its first innings, conceding a lead of 85.

Tom Abell, Tim Groenewald, James Hildreth, Steve Davies and Craig Overton were Ashwin's five second-innings wickets, completing a match haul of eight for 123 in 64.3 overs. The 32-year-old Ashwin, who has four Test hundreds, walked out to bat at No. 4 in the second innings.

This was Ashwin's second match for his county team after taking three for 162 in Nottinghamshire's innings defeat to defending champion Essex.

-Ajinkya Rahane fails-

Hampshire's overseas player and Indian Test batsman Rahane has registered two single-digit scores against Warwickshire County Cricket Club at Hampshire Bowl in Southampton.

Batting at No. 3, Rahane made four in the first innings before being caught off the bowling of England seamer Olly Stone.

In Hampshire's second innings, Rahane was trapped lbw for three by seamer Oliver Hannon-Dalby.

This is Rahane's sixth match for Hampshire. He has an aggregate of 264 runs in 11 innings at an average of 24. He made a century (119) in the second innings of the four-day match against Nottinghamshire and, in his previous match, struck a first-innings half-century against Somerset.
