Welcome to Sportstar 's live coverage of the first match of Deodhar Trophy, between India A and India.

Dinesh Karthik and Ravichandran Ashwin put up a brave fight but in the end, it was India B that came out on top; young leg-spinner Mayank Markande returning impressive figures of four for 48.

4.41pm

Markande got rid of Ravichandran Ashwin to break a nagging stand before Nadeem had Karthik caught and bowled on 99 to leave India A reeling at 214/7.

4.15 pm

Karthik and Ashwin have kept their team afloat with a hard-working partnership. The Tamil Nadu duo have put on 87 runs together in 16.3 overs, leaving India A needing to score at a little more than a run a ball to clinch the target of 262.

The many singles scored in this period seems to have tired them; Karthik's indecisiveness between the wickets on one occasion almost cost him his wicket.

It's 176/5 in 37 overs. India A needs 86 off 78 deliveries.

3.30pm

Our correspondent Abhishek Mukherjee reports from the ground

Express fast bowler Varun Aaron has further pegged back India A, claiming two key wickets. Ankeet Bawne was dismissed bowled by a fast, sharp yorker on the off-stump. And soon after, Krunal Pandya was dismissed, too; he seemed to be unsettled by a fast delivery on his body, tucking it to short square-leg.

Meanwhile, Dinesh Karthik, the captain, has batted with enterprise. Hopes are pinned on him if India A has to mount a comeback. It's 115 for 5 in the 26th over.

3.23pm: Dinesh Karthik scores a fifty! That's his 33rd List-A fifty.  It's been a solid innings from him as support kept falling apart.

3.07pm: India A needs only 160 runs in 27 overs, but has only five wickets in hand. Dinesh Karthik (41*) seems to fighting a lone battle as he loses partners. But along with Ravichandran Ashwin at the crease, Karthik could take the match to the wire. India A - 102/5, 23 overs.

2.57pm: OUT! Krunal Pandya had just begun to build a partnership with Dinesh Karthik when Varun Aaron dismissed him on 17. After 20 overs, India A is struggling at 88/5/.

2.24 pm: WICKET! Varun Aaron removes Ankit Bawne for 3, reducing India A to 60/4 in the 14th over.

2.16 pm: Nine runs from Varun Aaron's first over, the 12th of the innings, bringing up India A's 50. It is 56/3, with captain Dinesh Karthik well-set and batting on 28. It needs 206 more runs to win from 228 balls.

A summary of the match situation from our reporter at the venue:

India A is rattled by early wickets in its chase of 262. Left-arm spinner Shahbaz Nadeem was the wrecker-in-chief, trapping opener Prithvi Shaw and Karun Nair off consecutive deliveries in the third over of the innings. Both were arm balls.

Anmolpreet Singh and Dinesh Karthik attempted a recovery but before long, the partnership was broken, Anmolpreet caught off a miscued pull off Deepak Chahar.

India A 47/3 in the 11th over.

1.55 pm WICKET! Anmolpreet Singh falls for 16. He is unable to keep his pull shot along the ground and is caught at square-leg, kept in the circle for specifically this kind of shot. Ankit Bawne is the new batsman in.

1.51 pm Anmolpreet Singh and Dinesh Karthik have put on 27 runs for the third wicket. The former is on 16, the latter on 12. India A 35/2 in the eighth over.

1.29 pm WICKET! Karun Nair is out first ball, in identical fashion to Prithvi. This time the batsman doesn't get an inside-edge and is plumb in front.

1.28 pm WICKET! Prithvi Shaw is out leg before to Shahbaz Nadeem. Replays show that he got an inside-edge onto his pad, but he cannot review the decision. Out for 7, India B 8/1.

1.23 pm Prithvi Shaw opens the innings for India A, along with Anmolpreet Singh. He cops a blow in the second over and is tended to by the team physio. He continues his innings. India B is 3/0 in the second over.

The India B innings report from our reporter at the venue.

India B huffs and puffs its way to 261 for 8 in 50 overs, after an indifferent performance by the lower-order batsmen. The turning point was Tiwary's run-out in the 38th over; the end was comical as both batsmen were at one end and the third umpire had to ascertain who was out.

Within the next three overs, two more were dismissed, Ashwin and Gopal spinning a web.

Vihari (87, 95b, 9X4) stuck till the end, hitting a few boundaries in the business end but his team's innings finds no momentum as wickets kept falling. Fast bowlers Kaul and Dhawal Kulkarni accounted for the seventh and eighth wickets.

12.34 pm: Hanuma Vihari finishes on 87 not out, India B finishes with 261/8 in its 50 overs.

12.28 pm: WICKET| Shahbaz Nadeem 9 (15) caught at cover by Bawne. Eighth wicket down for India B. Varun Aaron is the new man in.

12.20 pm: Two overs to go and Vihari (72 not out) is looking to attack.

India B 245-7 (48)

12.07 pm: WICKET| Unadkat c Pandya b Kulkarni 8 (14) 4s 1

12.00 pm: India B will rely heavily on Vihari (64 not out) to get to 250. Tiwary's dismissal proved to be turning point of the match.

11.55 am: WICKET| Deepak Chahar missed the line of the delivery that kissed his stumps; brilliant piece of bowling by Shreyas Gopal.

D Chahar 4 (10)

India B 216-6 (42)

11.46 am: Vihari completes his half-century, a gritty 50 off 67 balls for the Andhra batsman.

11.42 am: WICKET| Ashwin shortens Bains' stay in the middle. Bowled.

A Bains 7 (6) 4s 1

India B 202-5 (38.4)

11.35 am: WICKET| That's a gift. Tiwary ran for hell. There was no run there.

M Tiwary run out (Siraj) 52 (58) 4s 1 6s 2

Boundaries have been more forthcoming as the batsmen become settled. A slog-sweep off Ashwin by Vihari and a pull off Shreyas Gopal were two powerful strokes in the last 10 overs. To make it difficult for them again, Siddharth Kaul and Krunal have been re-introduced.

Kaul's bouncers have unsettled the batsmen, and so has Krunal's accurate bowling. They have prevented Tiwary and Vihari from going full tilt.

It's180/3 after 36 overs.

India B 194/4 (37.3)

11.30 am: Tiwary brings up his half-century — 51 not out off 57 balls; Vihari adjusted his game to race to 44. Overall, balanced display of batting from India B.

11.06 am: The Vihari-Tiwary pair have stitched 67 runs for the fourth wicket. Vihari is on 38, Tiwary on 31.

India B 163-3 (32)

10.45 am: The Ashwin-Pandya combo has put on the brakes on India B scoring rate. It is 121/3 after 26 overs. And now Shreyas Gopal, leg-break bowler, is introduced into the attack.

10.40 am: Manoj Tiwary and Hanuma Vihari are trying to steady the ship. Siraj back into the attack.

There's turn, there's grip, and plenty of nervous moments for both the new batsmen at the crease. Hanuma Vihari and Manoj Tiwary have milked singles when the opportunities arose, but they have not looked set against left-arm spinner Krunal Pandya and offspinner R. Ashwin.

Ashwin has mixed his deliveries well, throwing in the occasional leg-spin to rattle the batsman. He was close to dismissing both batsmen in the 24th over; after Tiwary came down the track and checked his slog at the last moment to avoid being caught by the long-on fielder, who collected the ball after it had bounced. Off the next delivery, Vihari nearly edged behind; he had little idea that the ball would turn the other way.

India A has brought in Shreyas Gopal to bowl his leg-spinners, as the batsmen aren't comfortable against spin. Tiwary, however, throws caution to the wind for once, and lifts Ashwin to long-on for six.

It's 135/3 in the 28th over.

Abhishek Mukherjee, reporting from Feroz Shah Kotla, New Delhi

10.27 am: The fact that Ashwin made himself available for the ODI shows his zeal and focus to make an India comeback in limited-overs.

India B 110/3 (23)

10.25 am: Ashwin gets the in-form Iyer for 41 (47); 4s 6 6s 1

India B 95/3 (18)

Our correspondent, Abhishek Mukherjee, reports from the ground

A wicket at long last! It took a an arm ball from left-arm spinner Krunal Pandya to dent India B after a rollicking start given by Mayank Agarwal and Shreyas Iyer. Agarwal went back to a length delivery on middle and leg, and had his furniture disturbed as the ball went in with the angle. The two batsmen accounted for a partnership of 59 after their team lost an early wicket, in the form of Ruturaj Gaikwad.

10.03 am: WICKET! Mayank Agarwal is bowled by Krunal Pandya for 46. India A 87/2. Hanuma Vihari has joined Shreyas Iyer, who is batting on 37.

India B 54/1 (9.0)

9.31 am: Shreyas Iyer is out in the middle. Agarwal and Iyer have played a lot together for India A in the recent past. Oh! Poor delivery by Kulkarni goes past the leg side for another boundary. Agarwal is on a roll.

9.23 am: WICKET| Siraj gets Gaikwad. Thick outside edge and low catch at first slip by Karun Nair.

R. Gaikwad 2 (8)

India B 28/0 (5.0)

9.10 am: DROPPED! Agarwal slashed the ball outside off which went to Prithvi Shaw like a rocket. This could prove expensive for the bowling side.

After two overs, India B 10/0 (2.0)
