The Mumbai Cricket Association polls will be held on October 4.

The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has finally announced October 4 as the date for its elections.

With the Committee of Administrators making it clear that all associations have to fall in line and conduct their polls by October 4 to be eligible for the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Annual General Meeting on October 23, the MCA announced that the voting will be held from 8 to 11 am on October 4. The results will be declared on the same day.

Former top bureaucrat D. N. Chaudhari, who had initially refused to preside as electoral officer citing contempt of court, also gave his assent to take up the job.

“We have decided to conduct the elections on time and necessary measures have been taken,” one of the MCA officials said.

The election officer has also clarified that according to the BCCI reforms, all former international cricketers — male and female — hailing from the jurisdiction of MCA shall be granted membership provided he/she has not already opted for membership of another association. Such cricketers have been asked to submit a specific form by September 30. September 30 will also be the deadline for the clubs to nominate its representative and a 24-hour window thereafter has been set for filing nominations for all the posts. MCA, along with other major associations like Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh, had been resisting the implementation of the reforms for the last three years. But with TNCA having conducted its election, MCA has also decided to implement the reforms to avoid losing a vote in the BCCI election.
