'Syed Mushtaq Ali tournament will go ahead as planned'

Despite incidents of violence in the Chennai on Monday, the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) is confident that the Syed Mushtaq Ali South Zone Twenty20 tournament will go ahead as planned.

The competition is scheduled to be held in the city from January 29 to February 3, with all six States in the South Zone taking part. The teams will start arriving here from January 26.

Despite incidents of violence in the Chennai on Monday, the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) is confident that the Syed Mushtaq Ali South Zone Twenty20 tournament will go ahead as planned.

The competition is scheduled to be held in the city from January 29 to February 3, with all six States in the South Zone taking part. The teams will start arriving here from January 26.

Speaking to

Sportstar , TNCA joint secretary R. I. Palani said, “We are hopeful of the situation in the city improving over the next couple of days. We don’t anticipate any problems regarding the conduct of the tournament.”

He added, “Our preparations are on track. The tournament should be a success here.” The TNCA office, close to the area of the protests at the Marina beach, closed early on Monday so that the office-bearers and the staff could reach home safely.

Creditably, the TNCA was able to conduct all three of its first division (Plate) matches here on Monday.
