Roach: Playing against India an eye-opener

West Indies paceman Kemar Roach, who bagged three wickets against India on Thursday, believed the side has a bright future.

West Indian spearhead Kemar Roach termed the World Cup game against India as an ‘eye-opener’ and despite the defeat, felt that cricket in the Caribbean islands has a future. Roach spoke to the media at Old Trafford on Thursday.

The mindset

After the game against Pakistan the guys were confident and then we had those close games against Australia and New Zealand but we couldn’t get off the line. We have a couple of young guys who have the future ahead of them and we need to be positive.

The India-Kohli effect

India’s performance was good, it is a tough team and has quality batsmen. Playing against them is always an eye-opener and it is a good lesson for the rest of the tournament. It is always tough bowling to Virat, he is a quality player.

Appraisal

I was in good rhythm, picked a few wickets and was economical. It was a slow pitch and we bowled well and did a pretty good job to stick India to 260 but today was an odd-day for our batsmen.

The road ahead

The games against Sri Lanka and Afghanistan will be tough. I think we have a bright future and there are good players like (Shimron) Hetmyer and a few others.
