IND vs ENG: Eoin Morgan's Jason Roy risk pays off as India fails to use DRS

Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow bludgeoned their way to a 160-run partnership against the Indian bowling attack in the 2019 World Cup.

England had certainly missed the services of Jason Roy, who injured his right hamstring, in its last three matches. Skipper Eoin Morgan in the lead up to the match against India said the team management was ready to take the risk Roy and play him in the league stage match at Edgbaston on Sunday.

The inclusion of Roy is proving to be an inspired decision as it has revitalised England's batting at the top of the order with James Vince struggling to fire in his three outings.

Roy and his opening partner Jonny Bairstow bludgeoned their way to a 160-run partnership against the Indian bowling attack which has conceded a total of 250-plus only once in five outings in the tournament. It took a stunning catch from Ravindra Jadeja off Kuldeep Yadav's bowling to dismiss Roy for 66 off 57 balls.

The pair has nine hundred-run stands in 30 innings since September 2017. The duo makes the most of home conditions: eight of their 100-run stands have come in 15 outings at home at an average of 93.13.

Roy, however, had a reprieve on 21 when he gloved a catch to MS Dhoni of the bowling off Hardik Pandya but the umpire turned down the appeals. Skipper Virat Kohli and Dhoni had a discussion but decided against taking the DRS.

Bairstow went on to score his maiden World Cup hundred from just 90 balls.

England has won seven out of eight matches when Bairstow and Roy have scored 100-runs and more as a pair. England's openers have laid a foundation for a big total.
