David Warner departed for 3 runs in Sheldon Cottrell's bowling.

West Indies pacers Sheldon Cottrell, Jason Holder and Oshane Thomas shot down the Australian top-order with their pace and bounce. Thanks to Steve Smith's gritty 73, the defending champions was all out for 288 in 49 overs. Interestingly, none in the current Australian World Cup squad has an ODI century against West Indies. Nathan Coulter-Nile came agonizingly close with a counter-attacking 92 off 60 balls (8x4, 4x6).

Usman Khawaja's 98 at Basseterre in the Tri-Series in June, 2016 which the Windies won by 4 wickets remains the highest score among the Australian batsmen.

Likewise, no one from the West Indies in the current squad has a century against Australia. The side's seniormost batsman Chris Gayle, who first faced Australia in ODIs in 2003, has not reached three figures against the five-time champion. His score of 92 in July, 2008 at Basseterre remains the highest score among the current squad.

Thursday's World Cup match is also the first ODI against Australia for Shimron Hetmyer, Sheldon Cottrell, Shai Hope, Ewin Lewis, Ashley Nurse, Nicholas Pooran, Oshane Thomas.
