Seven-year-old named Australia's co-captain

Archie, who is diagnosed with a life-threatening heart complications, is set to lead Australia alongside Tim Paine in the iconic Boxing Day Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).

Archie’s (in pic) inclusion was made public earlier this month and he learned the news via a phone call from coach Justin Langer, while the Australian team was in the UAE for its series against Pakistan.

Archie Schiller, the seven-year old spinner who was brought into the Australian Test team earlier this month, is set to lead Australia alongside Tim Paine in the iconic Boxing Day Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).

The announcement was made by Paine at Yarra Park ahead of the third Test against India starting on Wednesday.

Archie turned seven on Saturday – the same day Paine delivered the news to the bubbly youngster.

Archie had faulty heart valves, which was discovered when he was three months old, led to irregular beating of the heart and further life-threatening complications. He has already undergone thirteen surgeries in his short life.

 

All this has been made possible through Make-A-Wish Australia, which learned of Archie's circumstances and aspirations when he prepared for his most recent operation.
