Dhawan to miss first three ODIs against Australia

The selectors have decided not to name any replacement for the opening batsman.

Even before the series begins, India has suffered a major blow as Shikhar Dhawan has been released for the first three ODIs. In a statement issued on Thursday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) revealed that Dhawan has been relieved of duties to be his with his wife Ayesha, who is unwell.

“Team India opener Mr Shikhar Dhawan has requested to be released from the team for the first three ODIs of the Paytm Australia tour of India, 2017 to attend to his wife, who is unwell,” the statement read.

Interestingly, the senior selection committee has decided not to name any replacement for Dhawan. The swashbuckling batsman was to reach Chennai from his home in New Delhi late in the night.
