India made regular inroads to restrict New Zealand for 273/8.

Hello and welcome to Sportstar's LIVE coverage of the second ODI between India and New Zealand. This is V.S. Aravind and I will take you through the action unfolding at Auckland.

  • That's all we have for you and hope you enjoyed the coverage. Although India lost the series, there is plenty to look forward to in the final ODI. Until then, it's goodbye.

  • Chasing 274, India needed a good partnership and it was only Saini and Jadeja who gave some hope with a revival. The top-order failed and once Shreyas Iyer was dismissed, New Zealand was always the favourites to win the game. Credit to Jadeja who scored a 73-ball 55 and also to Saini who made a valiant 49-ball 45 and kept India in the hunt. But once the pair was separated, New Zealand further applied brakes and finally Jadeja perished in search for boundaries. After the 5-0 T20I whitewash, New Zealand bounced back strongly to win the three-match ODI series. And again today, it was Ross Taylor who stood up when the chips were down.

  • It's all over and New Zealand win the series 2-0. Low full toss and Jadeja drills it straight into the hands of Colin de Grandhomme at long-off as India falls short by 22 runs. India 251 all out (48.3 overs)

  • 23 required from 12 balls and it's Jadeja on strike.

  • Jasprit Bumrah walks out in what will be a very important stay in the middle.

  • WICKET - Just what India didn't want and Chahal gets run-out. Jadeja calls for a single, there was a misfield, Chahal charges for a second but Jadeja refuses and even a dive couldn't save him.

  • Fifty for Jadeja: Wonderful knock and the dressing room including skipper Virat Kohli applaud the effort. Now it will be an icing on the cake if Jadeja can pull off a win.

  • Excellent from Jadeja. He is placing the ball in the gaps, playing with soft hands and picing a couple of runs.

  • India needs 40 off 24 deliveries. Still possible but Jadeja has to bat through.

  • Yuzvendra Chahal is the new man in but the onus now lies with Jadeja to take India home.

  • WICKET - Jamieson gets his man as the debutant cleans up Saini but the Delhi boy has done his job and has got India within touching distance. A 49-ball 45 and Saini has certainly turned heads.

  • SIX - Saini is playing a gem of an innings and this time clears his front leg and slapped Jamieson over cover for a maximum.

  • The partnership between Saini and Jadeja is worth 69 and the duo has injected hope that they can win.

  • FOUR - Saini is on fire. Gets down on one knee and paddles it to the fine leg boundary to pick much needed momentum. India very much alive.

  • FOUR - And another boundary by Saini this time guides it through backward point.

  • FOUR - Saini is showing that he is no mug with the bat and this time drills one through the covers for a boundary.

  • India needs 97 off 54 and this pair has the ability to take the game deep and even win it.

  • SIX -What a shot from Saini. Short, wide and Saini swings hard as the ball flies over backward point for a boundary. There is still life in this match.

  • Ravindra Jadeja continues to wage a lone battle but New Zealand are clearly way ahead in this game.

  • WICKET - Colin de Grandhomme returns and goes past the defence of Shardul Thakur. Out for 18, India 153 for seven. Navdeep Saini is the new batsman in

  • Shardul Thakur collects back-to-back boundaries and he is not going down without putting a fight.

  • Ravindra Jadeja is banking on quick singles and is focused on strike rotation. New Zealand bowlers are sticking to the back of length ploy and the little extra bounce is not allowing Jadeja to free his hands.

  • Shardul Thakur is the new man in.

  • WICKET - That could be the series for New Zealand as Shreyas Iyer throws his wicket away. Reckless shot. Reaches his fifty and then makes room to play a cut shot, the ball takes the edge and an alert Tom Latham pouches it in delight to spark celebrations. Iyer let go an opportunity in could have been one of his finest knocks. India six down.

  • Fifty for Shreyas Iyer - Well deserved fifty from Iyer and this is such a composed knock.

  • FOUR - Short and width on offer and Jadeja cuts it over the slips for a much-needed boundary.

  • A cut to backward point and Jadeja is off the mark with a single.

  • Eight dot deliveries and Jadeja is yet to get off the mark. Current run rate is 4.32 and the required rate is 6.54.

  • SIX - Shreyas Iyer is not holding back and what a lovely shot it was. Full delivery and Iyer tonks it over wide of long-on for a maximum.

  • Ravindra Jadeja joins Shreyas Iyer with India five down.

  • WICKET - Poor shot, rather reckless from Kedar Jadhav. Just when the partnership was building Jadhav throws it away. Full delivery from Tim Southee and Jadhav hits it straight into the hands of Henry Nicholls at cover.

  • SIX - Shreyas Iyer breaks away from the shackles with a maximum. Full delivery from de Grandhomme and Iyer smacks it over long-off for a maximum. Top shot!

  • FOUR - Full delivery and Kedar Jadhav throws his hands at it and drills it through the mid-on for a much-needed boundary.

  • A single to third man and Kedar Jadhav is off the mark.

  • Kedar Jadhav changes his bat.

  • Kedar Jadhav is yet to get off the mark and this is an important phase in the game. India needs a partnership to be in the game and both Iyer and Jadhav need to drop anchor.

  • Kedar Jadhav is the new man in and he has a huge task in his hands.

  • WICKET - Big wicket as the inform K.L. Rahul departs. Colin de Grandhomme with the wicket as Rahul chops it on to the stumps. He is clearly disappointed with himself. New Zealand are right in this game and are in complete control.

  • FOUR - Top shot from Shreyas Iyer as he creams Jamieson to the long-off boundary.

  • Rahul gets off the mark with a tuck through the square and picks a couple.

  • K.L. Rahul joins Shreyas Iyer and two inform batsmen hold the key for India. Time for rebuilding phase.

  • WICKET - Huge one for New Zealand as Tim Southee knocks out the India skipper.  The chase master departs. Full delivery, scrambled seam, Kohli looks to flick it through the on-side, misses it and the ball sneaks through to hit the timber.

  • FOUR- Jamieson drops it short and Kohli is quick to pull it through the mid-wicket for a boundary.

  • Virat Kohli has played a couple of exquisite cover drives and although it didn't yield runs, the shots gave an impression that the skipper is in good touch. Meanwhile, Shreyas Iyer has looked solid and the duo is focused on strike rotation.

  • Dropped - Kyle Jamieson almost had Virat Kohli but failed to latch on to a return catch. Kohli pushed a length delivery and checked his shot at the last minute, Jamieson got his left hand but couldn't hold on.

  • Shreyas Iyer is off the mark with a couple of lovely boundaries and the inform batsman will eye to capitalise on the opportunity.

  •

  • Shreyas Iyer joins skipper Virat Kohli.

Prithvi Shaw was off the blocks in a flash but Kyle Jamieson bowled him through the gate.

  • WICKET - Kyle Jamieson picks his maiden international wicket as he castles Prithvi Shaw. Bowled'in through the gate and lack of feet movement cost Prithvi his wicket. Massive gap between bat and pad and Jamieson has his first victim.

  • FOUR - Width on offer and Prithvi Shaw slaps it through the covers. He is racing away with his skipper in company.

  • FOUR - There is no stopping Prithvi Shaw and this time hammers Bennett over long-on for his fifth boundary.

  • Kohli gets off the mark with a lovely flick through the square and picks three runs to open his account.

  • India skipper Virat Kohli joins Prithvi Shaw

  • WICKET - Hamish Bennett strikes and he removes Mayank Agarwal with a peach of a delivery. Completely squared up the batsmen and induced an outside edge as Ross Taylor at first is safe as houses. Early loss for India.

  • FOUR - Prithvi Shaw is dealing in boundaries and reminds of the great Virender Sehwag. Flashy yet impactful. Short and wide, Prithvi slashes hard and clears the diving point fielder for a boundary.

  • FOUR- Third boundary of the over and Prithvi is underway in fine fashion. This time flicks it through the square leg as Bennett struggles to find his rhythm.

  • Prithvi Shaw starts with back-to-back boundaries as India's chase gets underway. The first one, a firm drive through mid-off, where a mis-field allowed Prithvi to pocket his first boundary. The second Bennett strays down the pads and it was an easy picking to the fine leg boundary.

  • Alright we are back for the chase as Mayank Agarwal and Prithvi Shaw make their way to the middle. Hamish Bennett to start proceedings with the new ball.

  • An unbeaten 74-ball 73 from Ross Taylor helped New Zealand post 273/8 but India will be happy that they restricted the Kiwis to below 300. Yuzvendra Chahal was the pick of the bowlers with three wickets. India should be able to chase down given the track is batting friendly. Shall be back for the chase shortly.

Yuzvendra Chahal was the pick of the bowlers with three wickets.

  • End of Innings: New Zealand 273/8

  • SIX - Kyle Jamieson uses the long lever to good effect as he gets underneath a slower delivery from Jasprit Bumrah and deposits it way over long-off for a maximum.

  • Smart batting from Ross Taylor as he is constantly shuffling across to put Saini off rhythm and pierces the field by placing the ball in the gaps and collecting the much-needed boundaries. New Zealand crosses the 250-run mark.

  • The fifty run partnership between Ross Taylor and Kyle Jamieson is up and the pair have revived New Zealand after a collapse.

  • SIX - This time debutant Kyle Jamieson gets into the act as he dispatches a cross-seam delivery into the crowd. New Zealand are on the move.

  • SIX - Taylor has decided to accelerate as he smacks Shardul Thakur for a maximum and the fielder at wide long-on had no chance.

Ross Taylor once again rescued New Zealand with an unbeaten 74-ball 73

  • Fifty for Ross Taylor - Taylor continues to shine with yet another fifty, an important one when the rest of the batsmen failed. Can he get New Zealand close to 260-run mark remains to be seen.

  • SIX - Ross Taylor picks the bones out it as he pulls Saini flat over the deep mid-wicket for a maximum. That was the shot of the innings.

  • Jasprit Bumrah makes a mess of a straightforward catch and hands Ross Taylor a life. Full from Shardul Thakur, Taylor slices it towards third man and Bumrah misjudged the catch completely.

  • WICKET - Yuzvendra Chahal strikes and he removes Tim Southee.  Good delivery from Chahal as he floated it, made Southee reach for the ball and the batsman fails to clear long-on as Navdeep Saini takes a clean catch.

  • The Indians have been like live wires on the field and Jadeja almost caught Taylor napping. 10 more overs to go and New Zealand will look to bat the full quota of 50 overs.

Martin Guptill gave New Zealand a fine start with a run-a-ball 79.

  • New Zealand have lost 6/45 and they just imploded after the departure of Guptill. Poor shot selection and run-outs have left them reeling.

  • WICKET - Colin de Grandhomme has thrown his wicket away! Needless shot. New Zealand wanted a partnership but de Grandhomme plays a reckless pull only to give Shreyas Iyer a simple catch at deep square leg. New Zealand are falling apart, rather quickly.

  • WICKET - Second run-out of the innings and this time Jimmy Neesham falls short of his crease. Taylor drops it just near backward point and sets off for a single but Ravindra Jadeja with a brilliant pick-up throw catches Neesham well short of his crease. You don't take on the arm of Jadeja, of all fielders. Bulls's eye!

  • James Neesham joins Ross Taylor

  • WICKET - Ravindra Jadeja strikes and he successfully traps Tom Latham. Umpire Chris Brown took his time to raise his finger after Latham was hit on the back thigh. The New Zealand skipper went for the review but the umpire's call stands. Pitching in line, impact in line and wicket hitting. Yet another important wicket for India.

  • WICKET - Just as we speak Martin Guptill gets run-out against the run of play and India have earned a huge wicket here. Suicidal, least to say! Taylor sweeps it to short third man and Shardul Thakur picks the ball and throws it as K.L. Rahul whips the bails in a flash. Guptill didn't even bother to hold his ground and kept sprinting to the dressing room.

  • The 150 is up for New Zealand and Guptill will look to change gears with Taylor at the other end. A wicket here could shift the momentum towards Indian camp.

  • In-form batsman Ross Taylor joins Martin Guptill.

  • WICKET - Shardul Thakur strikes and he removes Tom Blundell. Blundell was looking good but this time he drills a full delivery straight into the hands of Navdeep Saini at mid-on. Saini did well to maintain his composure to take a good catch. Crucial breakthrough for India.

  • Chance of a run-out and Manish Pandey fails to gather it cleanly. Guptill taps Chahal through the vacant slip region, Tom Blundell was mid-way when Guptill refused the single and Manish Pandey fails to throw to the non-striker's end. Blundell was gone!

  • Half-century for Guptill: Martin Guptill brings up his fifty and this has been a sumptuous knock from the opener. Chanceless innings laced with some exquisite shtrokes. He is looking in good touch.

  • WICKET - Having dropped a simple caught and bowled chance, Yuzvendra Chahal strikes to give India the first breakthrough. Full delivery, Nicholls goes for the sweep, misses it and the umpire raises his finger. New Zealand review, but the decision stays.

  • The Indians bowlers are in search of a breakthrough but on a good batting wicket, the New Zealand openers are feasting at the moment.

  • SIX - Excellent from Guptill as he smacks Jasprit Bumrah for a maximum over the third man region.

  • Guptill and Nicholls give New Zealand a sedate start as both openers are cautious in their approach. The Indian bowlers, meanwhile, have maintained a tight lone and are not letting the batsmen to cut loose.

  • Jasprit Bumrah to partner Shardul Thakur.

  • Good start Guptill by Shardul Thakur. Just one leg-bye from the first over.

  • Martin Guptill and Henry Nicholls are out in the middle. Shardul Thakur to open the bowling with Guptill on strike. Here we go!

  • An animated India skipper is speaking in the team huddle and the men in blue look positive. Given the short boundaries, it will be interesting to see how the bowlers deliver.

  • Virat Kohli: We will bowl first. Pretty hard wicket, the new-ball might do a bit, smaller ground, short straight boundaries and it's difficult to defend. Need to bowl well, put the pressure on their batsmen and take some early wickets. Need to bring the intensity we had in the T20Is into the 50-over game. Two changes for us - Mohammed Shami has been rested for the upcoming Tests, Navdeep Saini is in. Yuzvendra Chahal replaces Kuldeep, he hasn't played an ODI for a while, wanted to get him into the team.

  • Tom Latham: Would have bowled as well, looks like a good surface and we need to put the runs on the board. The record chase in Hamilton was good for us, need to do well with the bat here, build partnerships and gets the runs on the board. Mark Chapman replaces Mitchell Santner, who has had a bad back and Kyle Jamieson makes his ODI debut. He's had to wait for his opportunity and deserved this call-up.

  • Playing XI: India: Prithvi Shaw, Mayank Agarwal, Virat Kohli (C), Shreyas Iyer, Lokesh Rahul (WK), Kedar Jadhav, Ravindra Jadeja, Shardul Thakur, Navdeep Saini, Yuzvendra Chahal, Jasprit Bumrah

Playing XI: New Zealand: Martin Guptill, Henry Nicholls, Tom Blundell, Ross Taylor, Tom Latham(WK/C), James Neesham, Colin de Grandhomme, Tim Southee, Mark Chapman, Kyle Jamieson, Hamish Bennett

  • Toss: India opts to bowl first. Two changes for India as Shami is rested and Navdeep Saini comes in. Yuzvendra Chahal comes in for Kuldeep Yadav.
  • Six-foot-eight tall Kyle Jamieson will make his debut on home ground on Saturday, replacing Ish Sodhi in the side.
  • This team under Kohli knows how to bounce back. They did it against West Indies and then against Australia. The batsmen were at their elements at Hamilton but it's the bowling that let them down. Coming into this game, there might be some changes. We will get to know soon as a cracker is on the cards.
  • Toss, team news and pitch report shortly.
  • From Hamilton to Auckland, welcome to the second ODI as for the first time, India is one down in the series as Virat Kohli and Co. aim to level the series.

The Preview

India's bowling in focus as Kohli and Co. look to bounce back

Some of their bowling and fielding frailties exposed in the series-opener, India will aim for quick course correction when they take on a resurgent New Zealand in the second ODI here on Saturday.

Flying high after the 5-0 whitewash of New Zealand in the T20 series, India was brought to the ground after the hosts took a 1-0 lead in the three-match series with a four-wicket win in the first ODI.

The Black Caps chased down their highest-ever total in ODI cricket at Seddon Park and the toss will be crucial once again at the even shorter Eden Park where the side batting second will have a clear advantage.

New Zealand opted to bat here in both the T20Is, but India chased well in both instances albeit in different circumstances.

India finds themselves in a familiar situation after the loss in Hamilton. But the visitors have come from behind against the West Indies and Australia to win their last two ODI series and Virat Kohli’s men will look to do the same here.

Like in Chennai against the West Indies, or in Mumbai against Australia, India’s loss at Hamilton was down to their lack of ability to take wickets in the middle overs.

The opposition batsmen took advantage to hit big and the Indian attack didn’t have any answers.

In the first ODI, skipper Virat Kohli turned to Jasprit Bumrah every time he went searching for a wicket. This over-dependency is something India would want to address in their composition.

India’s fielding too will be under the scanner. In each of those losses at Chennai, Mumbai and Hamilton, it was poor despite flashes of individual brilliance.
