Bumrah got rid of Angelo Mathews.

Welcome to the highlights of Day 2 of the first Test between India and Sri Lanka in Mohali.

HIGHLIGHTS

STUMPS: Sri Lanka finishes on 108/4 and India will be a happy unit as it heads back to the pavilion. Not only is there a realistic possibility of getting all Sri Lanka wickets within the first session tomorrow, India may also be looking to enforce a possible 'follow on' option.

SL 108/4 in 40 overs: De Silva's struggle comes to an end as Ashwin removes him leg-before. A premediated sweep to play with the turn but this one kept straight. Sri Lanka decides to go upstairs after the umpire signals 'out' following an appeal for Asalanka's wicket. Turns out, it would have gone on to miss leg.

SL 100/3 in 35 overs: Bumrah bursts through Pathum Nissanka's defences with a slower offcutter, but he overstepped. WICKET! But he has the last laugh after getting Nissanka's batting partner, Angelo Mathews, out lbw. Appeal from Bumrah, given out, and Mathews reviewed. Mathews was out on the umpire's call. Sri Lanka's 96 for 3 with half hour left today.

DRINKS

SL 79/2 in 30 overs: Mohammed Shami has gone off the field for a bit. Bumrah has replaced him. Meanwhile, Angelo Mathews managed to loft one over mid-on off Jadeja for four. Nissanka played a glorious drive off Shami before pushing at a length ball and edging past the lone slip for another boundary.

SL 63/2 in 25 overs: Shami is back into the attack. He has gone round the wicket to Karunaratne with two short midwickets and a short leg. The pace and a movement off the wicket is keeping Karunaratne on his toes. Ashwin, meanwhile, continued to test new batter Nissanka's defence with his offbreaks. Ravindra Jadeja replaces Ashwin, after a 10-over spell, in the 25th over. There's a huge lbw appeal against Karunaratne first ball. Not given and India don't review. GONE! Next ball, the ball turns prodigiously and raps Karunaratne on the pads, again. Huge appeal for lbw and this time, it's given. Karunaratne reviews but to no avail. He is caught on the back foot in defence and pays the price. What an over. Sri Lanka 59 for 2. In comes Angelo Mathews.

SL 50/1 in 20 overs: Lahiru Thirimanne has been trapped plumb in front by Ravichandran Ashwin. To make matters worse, Sri Lanka loses a review. Pathum Nissanka has joined his skipper at the crease.

SL 41/0 in 15 overs: Spinners operating from both ends. Karunaratne collects two back-to-back boundaries off Jayant Yadav, first, an aerial shot over the bowler's head and second, a drive between the non-striker and mid-on. Sri Lanka going at 2.73 an over.

SL 24/0 in 10 overs: Ashwin's mastery of flight, drift and dip is on display. The Sri Lankan openers have looked good so far. Meanwhile, Bumrah is bowling to Karunaratne with two short midwickets in place. Bumrah gets a four-over spell. Jayant Yadav replaces him, with two left-handers in the middle. Starts with a maiden.

SL 21/0 in 5 overs: Dimuth Karunaratne got off the mark with a flick in front of square for four off Mohammed Shami. Next ball, a huge appeal for lbw but denied. Looked high. Bumrah shared the new ball. Thirimanne's first scoring shot is a cover drive for four off Shami. Spin in the fifth over as Ravichandran Ashwin gets the new ball. Three off his first.

Karunaratne and Thirimanne open the batting. Shami will open the attack.

- SRI LANKA 1ST INNINGS -

India have declared on 574/8. No double hundred for Jadeja, who stays unbeaten on a magnificent 175. Terrific innings. Sri Lanka have a mountain to climb.  Teams have taken tea.

IND 548/8 in 127 overs: Ravindra Jadeja gets to his 150 in style with a trip downtown! The six also brings up his 50-run partnership with Mohammad Shami, who is yet to get off the blocks. Sri Lanka has, in the meantime, lost a golden opportunity to run Jadeja/Shami out with both batters stuck at one end.

IND 514/8 in 122 overs: India goes past 500 as Jadeja targets Embuldeniya to hammer a six and two back-to-back fours in the 121st over. The India all-rounder has, in the meantime, entered the 140s.

IND 480/8 in 117 overs: WICKET! Jayant Yadav is caught at first slip and Vishwa Fernando has struck shortly after the lunch break, the left-arm angle over the wicket doing the trick. Mohammed Shami has joined Jadeja.

LUNCH: India (468/7) has dominated the first session today. A batting-friendly track saw Jadeja play a matured knock to bring up his second Test century, ably supported by a fifty from Ashwin, who was dismissed in the dying minutes.

IND 468/7 in 112 overs: RAVINDRA JADEJA GETS HIS SECOND TEST HUNDRED OFF 160 BALLS! Yes, it is time for the sword celebration yet again as he gets past the mark with a comfortable single.

IND 462/7 in 110 overs: Ashwin's 12th Test fifty comes off 67 balls. Having conceded eight in his last over, Embuldeniya returns with a maiden vs Ashwin. Two gullies in place for Lakmal, who is back into the attack. The 450 comes up for India . As Jadeja moves to 99, the duo set a new record for the highest Indian seventh-wicket partnership, eclipsing that of VVS Laxman and Irfan Pathan in Ahmedabad in 2005. Lakmal strikes with the short ball coming in from round the wicket. This one has been banged hard onto the surface and Ashwin has a swing at it as it steadily rises on him. 'Keeper Dickwella makes no mistake behind the sticks. Jayant walks in. The last time he batted in Mohali, he got a half-century.

IND 440/6 in 105 overs: Ashwin enters the 40s with a classy straight drive for four. Jadeja receives some treatment from physio Nitin Patel. He is getting his right wrist bandaged. Meanwhile, the 100-run partnership comes up .

IND 415/6 in 100 overs: The pitch has been favouring the batter, with the new, hard ball coming on quite nicely since the start of play on Day 2. India will mostly be looking to make full use of the track until at least Tea is taken. Jadeja goes after Fernando in the 97th over, hammering two fours to bring up India's 400.

IND 387/6 in 95 overs: The fifty-run partnership is up between Jadeja and Ashwin off 76 balls. It is their second half-century stand.

IND 372/6 in 90 overs: The cricketing world is still in a state of shock. The players make their way to the middle after observing a minute silence to mourn the passing away of legends Rodney Marsh and Shane Warne on Friday.

Jadeja scores an 88-ball fifty to stamp his class. Out comes the sword celebration as well. While Ashwin looks to be happy to pass on strike to Jadeja, the latter is occasionally finding the boundaries.

Injury update: Lahiru Kumara out for at least a couple of weeks due to a hamstring tear.

PITCH REPORT

"Day 1 belonged to the batters. It is a chilly morning that helps the pitch to hold it together. Looked like a really good batting surface yesterday, India made full use of it. You'd have to think it will turn more on day 2. There are enough bare patches on the pitch. Still looks like a good pitch to bat on," reckon Deep Dasgupta and Ajit Agarkar .
