Justice Sen faces opposition in DDCA

Justice Sen, who has been given charge by the High Court as the administrator to run cricket affairs, has called for an Extraordinary General Body Meeting of the Association on June 6 to carry out amendments to the existing DDCA constitution and to implement the Lodha Committee’s recommendations.

There are apprehensions in the cricket circles here that there would be opposition to Justice (retired) Vikramajit Sen’s efforts to streamline the administration in the Delhi and District Cricket Association.

Justice Sen, who has been given charge by the High Court as the administrator to run cricket affairs, has called for an Extraordinary General Body Meeting of the Association on June 6 to carry out amendments to the existing DDCA constitution and to implement the Lodha Committee’s recommendations.

“Some important members are engaged in gathering support from other members to oppose the proposed amendments to the DDCA Constitution as per the Lodha Committee recommendations and the High Court directive. The main issue is the abolition of the proxy voting system,” said a source.

It is learnt that this opposition is to ensure that the DDCA does not implement the Lodha Committee recommendations, thus forcing Justice Sen to put forward the association’s opposition.

This could likely lead to a situation where the Board would disaffiliate the DDCA. “The same members will then look to set up a new body which can then take over the reins of the DDCA by floating a new company/registered society,” added the source.

The ultimate decision, however, would lie with the Board. “It would be the Board’s prerogative to recognise the new body in order to ensure the interests of the cricketers and the game are not harmed,” said a top BCCI official.

He added that it would involve a protracted process.
