Australia pacers not happy with Ashwin ‘Mankading’ incident

Australia pacer Pat Cummins said he would never win games by ‘Mankading'.

 

Australia quicks Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins are disappointed with the ‘Mankading’ incident that surfaced in the IPL game between Rajasthan Royals and Kings XI Punjab in Jaipur on Monday.

Punjab skipper R. Ashwin ‘Mankaded’ Royals opener Jos Buttler, who was batting on 69 off 43 balls. The remaining wickets fell in quick succession and eventually, Punjab won by 14 runs.

Hazlewood said he isn’t happy with it. “...I don't think you should be able to get a batsman out that way, and even in this instance Buttler was hardly out of his crease. He wasn't jogging with the bowler, he wasn't running – he was pretty stationary to be honest,” the 28-year-old fast bowler told The Unplayable Podcast.

“I don’t think it should be in the game, to be honest. Maybe if the batters really start to take advantage, then the umpire needs to step in,” added Hazlewood, who is recovering from a back injury.

Cummins said that he would never win by such means. “It didn't really sit well with me to be honest. If a batsman is trying to steal a run you can kind of understand but I didn't think Jos was doing anything untoward there. I thought it was a pretty bad look to be honest.”

“The rule is there. But I thought in that instance it was a real stretch of the rule to try and get a wicket. I wouldn't want to win a game like that,” he said.

Earlier in the day, Australia spin legend Shane Warne called out Ashwin on Twitter .

On the other hand, former pacer Shaun Tait said the spirit of cricket varies from country to country.

As Delhi Capitals braces up for the Chennai Super Kings challenge on Tuesday, the 'Mankading' incident will remain a talking point, at least among the commentators and experts.
