Saurashtra’s Jaydev Unadkat has registered for the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction at a base price of Rs. 1.5 crore, the maximum by an Indian player.
In the previous edition, Unadkat was the highest-paid Indian player with Rajasthan Royals signing him for a whopping Rs 11.5 crore. But after a mediocre performance, the franchise decided not to retain him for next year’s tournament.
A total of nine capped players have listed themselves at the maximum base price of Rs 2 crore and the list includes Sri Lanka fast bowler Lasith Malinga, who was part of the Mumbai Indians coaching staff last season, Brendon McCullum, Chris Woakes, D’Arcy Short, Chris Wokes, Corey Anderson, England’s Sam Curran, Shaun Marsh, Angelo Mathews and Colin Ingram.

Even as players have registered themselves, their availability remains a concern. With the World Cup starting on May 30, most of the boards have informed the BCCI that their respective players will be joining World Cup camps and will leave the league midway, barring New Zealand players, who will be available for the entire league.
While England players will return home on April 25 to join a camp, the South African players will need to report for their camp by May 10 and Bangladesh players need to head home by April 15.
While Afghanistan Cricket Board is yet to finalise a cut-off date, the Australian players and Sri Lankan players will join their respective camps on May 2 and May 6 respectively.
As far as the venue for the league is concerned, the BCCI — it has been learnt — will take a call on whether to host the tournament abroad or have a part of it at home, by late December or early January.
The eight franchises will head into the auction without any clarity on the venue and it would be interesting to see what strategy they adopt. "There is no word on the venue yet, so we are actually playing a blind game. A team is formed keeping various factors in mind, of which the venue is the most important. But as of now, we don't have an idea," one of the franchise officials said.
