As the big day for CSK is less than a week away, fan clubs have upped the ante in getting together and deciding their priorities to support their team.

With CSK’s talisman and skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni joining the training camp, fan clubs took a decision to not trouble their skipper for photos or autographs.

“He (MS Dhoni) is here for the whole season and he is in Chennai with his family. As loyal fans, we also have the responsibility of respecting his private time. Once he is in the stadium, we’ll show our love for him,” said Saravanan, the most popular Dhoni fan who can be seen with a yellow painted body in CSK and India matches.

Prabhu D. of the Whistle Podu Army also echoed Saravanan’s views. “It creates a law and order situation near the team hotel or stadium if we converge in large numbers. We don’t want that. We have an entire season ahead and we’ll get our time with our Super King,” he said.

The fan clubs are now in the home stretch in their efforts of finalising their fan club memberships. “We are now despatching T-shirts, flags, wrist bands, membership cards and of course whistles to all members of our fan club. It is going to be a sea of yellow in Chepauk on Saturday,” Prabhu added.

With the tickets for CSK’s first match being sold out within minutes of opening at the counters and online, Prabhu said the fan clubs aren’t dealing with tickets for fans at the moment. “That will take sometime, to get to the management and then talk about tickets. For now, we are not just focussing on the IPL, it is going to be something more for the members like social and cultural activities during the off-season etc,” Prabhu said.
